Pousada do Toá sits on the shores of Lake Serra da Mesa, in Niquelândia (GO), one of the largest artificial reservoirs in Brazil. The lodge is built for boat anglers: its own marina, 6-to-7-meter aluminum boats with 40 HP engines, and local guides who know the submerged brush piles, backwaters, and current spots on the lake.

Best season

The lodge points to March through June and September through November as the good fishing window. It's worth noting that in the Tocantins basin (where Serra da Mesa is located) the closed season typically runs from November 1st to February 28th — anglers planning a November trip should confirm with the lodge whether peacock bass and croaker fishing is allowed during that specific stretch of the calendar.

Croaker: live shrimp or lambari, anchored bottom fishing
Best times: early morning and late afternoon, when peacock bass gets more aggressive on the surface

Facilities and prices

The rooms face the lake, with air conditioning and private bathrooms. The lodge has its own restaurant, fuel and ice supply, and live bait available on site. Fishing packages (lodging, full board, boat with guide, fuel, and ice) run between R$ 3,800 and R$ 6,500 per angler, varying with the length of stay and the season — it's worth confirming the current price directly with the lodge before booking the trip.

How to get there

From Brasília it's about 400 km (5 to 6 hours): BR-020 to Formosa, then GO-118 to Niquelândia. From Goiânia it's about 350 km (4 to 5 hours) via BR-153 and GO-237. In both cases, the final stretch to the lodge has a few kilometers of dirt road — fine in the dry season, more demanding in the rain. There's no confirmation of an official shuttle departing from Brasília or Goiânia; contacting the lodge directly can clarify whether a private driver is available.
