Open in FishNerd

Salto das Nuvens is, first and foremost, a waterfall about 19 meters high on the Rio Sepotuba, with a freshwater beach below and a fishing deck facing the backwaters and rapids — it's not a closed lodge with boat pilot and boat included. Anglers here fish mostly from the bank, the deck, or the beach; those wanting to explore farther pools bring their own kayak or boat.

What you'll catch

  • Pompano trahira (piraputanga) — the surest catch on the spot, abundant in the rapids and foam below the falls
  • Dourado — in the eddies and countercurrents right at the base of the falls; subject to mandatory catch-and-release in MT
  • Pintado catfish (and cachara catfish) — in the deeper pools of the Sepotuba
  • Pacu — along vegetated banks, mainly feeding on fallen fruit
  • Jaú catfish — mentioned by some sources as present in backwaters with rocky bottoms, but not confirmed by others; treat as possible, not guaranteed

Best season

May to October (dry season) is the consensus: the Sepotuba drops, the water clears, and fish concentrate in the channels and pools, which favors artificial lures and reading the river. The 'April to October' claim we had was one month early — April still carries leftover murky floodwater. November to February/March is closed season in the basin, with restricted fishing.

Techniques and lures

  • Pompano trahira (piraputanga): small plugs (5–7 cm) and #2/3 spinners fished mid-water along the edges of rapids; also takes well to fly fishing with streamers
  • Dourado: medium to long-lip plugs (9–14 cm) cast into the eddies by the rocks, right at the base of the falls
  • Pintado/cachara catfish: live bait or tuvira baitfish worked slowly through the deeper pools
  • Pacu: seasonal fruit, sour corn, or dough bait, fished under the tree canopy along the bank

Facilities and prices

The site also operates as a day-use resort (Wednesday to Sunday, 9am–6pm), with a rustic country-style restaurant, beach, and fishing deck — the daily entrance fee is around R$ 50 per adult, with children up to 9 years old free. For overnight stays, the cabins set within the forest are sold in the range of R$ 600 to R$ 1,100 per couple/angler, but this pricing is not confirmed through an official channel and is worth confirming by phone before booking. The site does not operate a closed fishing package: boat, motor, and guide are the angler's own responsibility.

Getting there

Highway MT-358, Km 21 (heading Tangará da Serra → Campo Novo do Parecis), Zona Rural, Tangará da Serra - MT, CEP 78300-000 — about 25 km from downtown. The paved road runs close to km 21; after that it's 2–3 km of dirt road to the gate of Fazenda Cachoeira, passable year-round by regular car, but rougher during the rainy season.
