The Pousada Vida de Peixe sits on the shores of Lago Serra da Mesa, in the municipality of Niquelândia-GO — not in Uruaçu, as stated in our previous record. It has been an all-inclusive sport fishing lodge since 2011, with a catch-and-release philosophy: the guest arrives, and lodging, meals, boat, guide, and fuel are all taken care of.

What you'll catch

The signature species is the peacock bass (tucunaré) (blue and yellow), so much so that the lodge maintains the 'Clube do Cara Preta' ('Dark Face Club') — a gallery honoring guests who land dark, large peacock bass (60 cm and up, considered trophy-sized in the lake). Bicuda (a type of pike characin) is also mentioned by local guides and fishing websites, but it does not appear confirmed on the lodge's official channels.

Best season

There is no official date set by the lodge itself. Guides and fishing websites covering the reservoir agree that the dry season — roughly June to November — is the most productive, with fish concentrated in backwaters and more active on the surface between September and November. December to April (flood season and spawning ban) tends to be slow and subject to legal restrictions.

Techniques and lures

Zaras, sticks, and jerkbaits 9 to 11 cm over submerged structure and brush piles ('pauleiras')
Feather jigs, especially in areas with current
Propbaits/topwater propellers for aggressive surface peacock bass
Fly fishing with #7/#8 line is also practiced by guests

Facilities and prices

Air-conditioned chalets with mini-fridge, TV, Wi-Fi, and solar-heated showers; restaurant with a chef and drink menu; swimming pool. The standard package includes double-occupancy lodging, three meals, an aluminum boat with a 40HP motor, a guide, 40 liters of gasoline/day, and non-alcoholic drinks/beer. A bass boat with an electric motor and fish finder is available, but it's optional and charged separately — not included in the basic package.

Getting there

From Brasília (~320 km) or Goiânia (~350 km), the route passes through Niquelândia; from there it's about 64 km to the lodge, with the final stretch on rural roads (extra caution is advisable during the rainy season). Cell phone signal is unstable in the region — bookings and contact work best via WhatsApp or email.
