Centro de Pesca Taquari is located on the Roteiro do Vinho (Wine Route) in São Roque (SP) and combines a sport fishing spot, a lodge with 27 chalets and a restaurant around two lakes: a smaller one (4,000 m²), calmer, and a larger one (21,000 m²), home to the big specimens of Tambacu, Pirarara (redtail catfish) and Pintado.

What you can catch

  • Tambacu (Tambaqui x Pacu hybrid) — the main attraction, with specimens over 20-40 kg
  • Tambaqui and Pacu — present according to the venue's official price list
  • Pintado and Dourado — bottom fishing, more technical
  • Pirarara (redtail catfish) — one of the biggest challenges in the larger lake
  • Tilapia, Matrinxã and Traíra (wolf fish) — good options for beginners

Best season

The venue itself recommends September to April, with sunny, windless days, a period when the water warms up and surface fish (Tambacu, Tambaqui) become more active and rise to the chum float. In the colder months (May to August) activity drops and fish tend to stay near the bottom.

Techniques and bait

  • Chum float (boia cevadeira) with a 2 to 3 m leader — main technique for Tambacu and Tambaqui
  • Coffee/brown beads next to the feed to draw attention on the surface
  • Perforated fish feed pellets (only the kind sold on-site — bringing outside chum is prohibited)
  • Bread on the surface for smaller fish like Tilapia
  • Prohibited on-site: artificial lures, barbed hooks and braided line; limit of 3 rods per angler

Facilities and prices

  • Daytime sport fishing: R$ 140.00 (venue's official price list)
  • Extended fishing until 9 PM or entry as a non-fishing companion: R$ 70.00
  • Fish up to 8 kg (Tambacu, Pacu, Pintado): R$ 30.00/kg; over 8 kg or species like Pirarara and Jaú: R$ 500.00/kg
  • 27 chalets for lodging, restaurant, fishing tackle shop, covered kiosks and decks along the lakeshores
  • Open Wednesday to Monday, 7 AM to 6 PM — closed on Tuesdays

Getting there: the fishing spot is located on Estrada do Vinho (SPV-077), km 5, Canguera neighborhood, São Roque - SP, about 60 km from São Paulo via Rodovia Raposo Tavares (SP-270), close to the Rota do Vinho.
