Open in FishNerdPantanosso is a sport fishing spot in Mairinque (São Roque region, SP), with a large main lake (around 22,000 m² of water surface, with depths between 2 and 5-6 m) and smaller secondary areas for pay-to-fish tilapia. The banks have wooden decks/platforms, and the bank opposite the main lake is well wooded — the big fish usually take shelter under that canopy, and that's where most of the strikes happen.
What you can catch
- Tambacu — the lake's flagship species, confirmed on site (a hybrid of tambaqui and pacu, not pure tambaqui)
- Pacu, tilapia — present in the smaller lakes and ponds
- Pintado/surubim catfish, cachara catfish — bottom fishing, close to the banks
- Carp — strong runs, common in bottom fishing
- Dourado — mentioned as present, requires live bait or mid-water lures
When to go
From October to April the water gets warmer and the round-bodied fish (tambacu, pacu) rise more eagerly to surface/mid-water chum. From May to September activity drops a lot on cold days; those who go in winter tend to have more success bottom fishing, during the strongest sun hours (early afternoon).
How to fish: techniques and baits that work there
- Tambacu/pacu: long-range chum float, 0.80 to 1.50 m leader, bait on a small hook, bead, or fish feed on a light hook rig — casting close to the shadows of the wooded bank
- Pintado/cachara/couro catfish: bottom fishing with a sliding sinker rig, using sausage bait, fish fillet, gills, or heart/chicken, close to the banks and structures
- Dourado: live bait (lambari/tuvira) or small mid-water plugs at spots with fish movement
- Carp: bottom rig with compacted dough/fish feed, heavier tackle because of the strong runs
Support structure: restaurant, snack bar selling bait and fish feed, restrooms, and parking. Regarding prices, there is disagreement among the available sources and none of them is the official channel — treat any figure as an estimate and confirm directly with the fishing spot before going.
Access from the capital: Rodovia Presidente Castello Branco (SP-280), exit around km 68.5 heading inland, with local signs indicating the Olhos D'Água neighborhood in Mairinque. Trip of approximately 45 to 60 minutes by car, depending on traffic.
